- North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC)
The North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) was formed in 1968 in the aftermath of the November 9, 1965, blackout that affected the northeastern United States and Ontario, Canada. NERC's mission is to promote the reliability of the electricity supply for North America. Members of the Council represent all segments of the electricity supply industry: investor-owned, federal, rural electric cooperatives, state/municipal, and provincial utilities, independent power producers, customers, and power marketers.
