Data presented in the table below are monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on the EIA-914 survey. Gross withdrawals are converted to marketed natural gas production which is reported on the EIA website in the Natural Gas Navigator, and in the Natural Gas Monthly and Annual reports. Marketed production is calculated by subtracting gas used for repressuring, quantities vented and flared, and nonhydrocarbon gases removed in treating or processing operations from gross withdrawals.
The 12-month increase from June 2007 to June 2008 for the lower 48 States was 8.6 percent. This large increase was driven by the strong production trends in Texas, Wyoming, and Other States. For the month of June, lower 48 States production increased 1.5 percent as most areas showed an increase. The Gulf of Mexico increased 9.3 percent with the resumption of production for the Independence Hub. Wyoming increased 1.8 percent and Other States 1.9 percent as new wells began production. New Mexico’s 4.5 percent decrease was a result of gas plants being shut down for maintenance.
All estimates, except as footnoted, are based on the adjusted ratio estimate method, which is explained in the Background and Methodology report. Readers are encouraged to review these reports to better understand all aspects of the EIA-914 survey. The Data Files contain initial and revised production estimates for each month (revisions are based on company resubmissions and late reports) and response rates by month.
