Nuclear's Role in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The Impact of Nuclear Power on Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the United States was presented to the International Atomic Energy Agency in November 2001 by the Energy Information Administration. This analysis examines the U.S. trends in carbon dioxide (mainly) and other emissions and the potential impact of future nuclear construction and nuclear retirements. A table appearing in the presentation (based on an EIA analysis prepared for this report) illustrates that, in the period 1960 through 2000, nuclear power offset 3.1 billion metric tons in carbon emissions.

Challenges of Electric Power Industry Restructuring for Fuel Suppliers - (also available in printer-friendly version )
This report examines the potential impact of Restructuring of Electric Power Industry on the coal, nuclear, natural gas, and renewables markets. It notes that the "stranded costs" recovery issue will not be the major factor in nuclear retirement decisions and that average fuel costs "make up only about one-fourth of the operating costs for nuclear power plants..."
