Coal Transportation: Rates and Trends in the United States, 1979-2001 (with Supplementary Data to 2002)
The report presents transportation-rate data calculated between specific origins and destinations for the most recent period, from 1999 through 2001, and for two baseline years, 1979 and 1990. The tables in Section 1 also include data for 2002 that are available from coal distribution and coal receipts surveys conducted by EIA, which provide some insight into coal volume and origin/destination trends beyond 2001.

Energy Policy Act Transportation Rate Study: Final Report on Coal Transportation (also available in printer-friendly version
This is the third and final report to Congress by the Secretary of Energy, required by Title XIII of the Energy Policy Act of 1992. It examines changes in domestic coal transportation rates and coal distribution patterns since the enactment of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (CAAA90).

Impacts of the Kyoto Protocol on U.S. Energy Markets & Economic
Activity - Summary, Economics/Markets, Technology/Early
Start, Fossil Fuel
Supply
Forecast Analysis - EIA undertook this study in response to a request by the Chairman and Ranking Minority Member of the House Committee on Science that it analyze impacts of the Protocol (which the President has not yet submitted to the U.S. Senate for ratification) on U.S. energy use, prices, and the general economy in the 2008-2012 time frame. That is when this country is supposed to reach an average level of net greenhouse gas emissions 7 percent lower than they were in 1990--having shown demonstrable progress toward that goal by 2005

Challenges of Electric Power Industry Restructuring for Fuel Suppliers
The U.S. coal and electric power industries are tightly linked: more than 87 percent of total domestic coal consumption is used for generation by utilities, and coal accounts for more than 56 percent of utility power generation. The purpose of this report is to provide an assessment of the changes in other energy industries that could occur as the result of restructuring in the electric power industry.

Energy Policy Act Transportation Rate Study: Interim Report on Coal
Transportation
The primary purpose of this report is
to examine changes in domestic coal distribution and railroad coal
transportation rates since enactment of the Clean Air Act Amendments
of 1990 (CAAA90). From 1988 through 1993, the demand for low-sulfur
coal increased, as the 1995 deadline for compliance with Phase I of
CAAA90 approached.
