NOTE TO EDITORS:

EIA Publishes Brochure "A Primer on Gasoline Prices"

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has published a brochure called A Primer on Gasoline Prices. The brochure answers, in laymen's terms, questions such as "What are the components of the retail price of gasoline? Why do gasoline prices fluctuate? Why do gasoline prices differ according to region?" And "Why are California gasoline prices higher and more variable than others?"

Printed copies of the brochure will be available from EIA's National Energy Information Center in about two weeks. In the meantime, the brochure is available electronically on EIA's website at http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/analysis_publications/primer_on_gasoline_prices /pdf/petbro.pdf

This Note to Editors was prepared by the Energy Information Administration, the independent statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy. The information contained in the Note should be attributed to the Energy Information Administration and should not be construed as advocating or reflecting any policy position of the Department of Energy or any other organization.
