Overview

General

The first International Conference on Establishment Surveys (ICES) was held in Buffalo, New York, in 1993, and convened more than 400 experts in the area of surveys of businesses, farms, and institutions. The monograph papers from this conference were published by J. Wiley in 1995 in a volume entitled Business Survey Methods, edited by B. Cox et al.

A second conference, ICES-II, is planned for June 17-21, 2000, in Buffalo. Since the first ICES, many new techniques have been implemented by practitioners around the globe. The first conference set the stage by formally documenting the state of the art at that time. With the new millennium upon us, it is time for a forward look at methods for surveying businesses, farms, and institutions. Both invited as well as contributed sessions are planned, in addition to workshops and software demonstrations.

Language

The official language of the conference is English. Translators will not be provided.

Errata in the Proceedings

Missing papers

The paper by Gordon Sande (session 29) was erroneously omitted from the proceedings. Copies can be found here: Effective Heuristics Used In Cell Suppression Calculations or in PDF format.

The paper by Regina Kaiser and Augustin Maravall (session 21) is credited in the proceedings to the wrong authors. A copy of the properly attributed paper can be found here: in PDF format.

The paper by Piedro Demetrio Falorsi, Alessandro Pallara and Raffaella Succi (session 47) was erroneously omitted from the proceedings. A copy can be found here: in PDF format.  new

Duplicated papers

Paper 25.1 (i.e. the first paper of session 25) appears also as the first paper of session 29.

Paper 56.3 is repeated twice on the CD, but not in the book.

Other errors  new

The paper by Danny Pfeffermann, Stuart Scott, and Richard Tiller (session 21) begins on page 755 of the hardcopy proceedings, not 749, as noted in the contents and the index.

The paper by Mark Pont, John Perry, Mike Prestwood and Andrew Stephens (session 5) was inserted in the middle of the preceding paper by Paul Smith and John Perry on the CD-ROM. As such, of that 24 page section, the Smith-Perry paper occupies pages 13 and 20-24 whilst the Pont et al. paper occupies pages 14-19.

The paper by Karl-Gustav Hansson (session 42) was reproduced on the CD-ROM with Tableau 1 missing. The Tableau can be found here: in PDF format.

We apologize to all and particularly to the authors involved.
