Top Petroleum Net Importers, 2000

The following table ranks the top 10 net oil importing countries in 2000. Please note that this table represents net imports, not total (or gross) oil imports. Net imports is defined as the difference between total oil consumption (demand) and total oil production (supply), except for the United States, where net imports are defined as the difference between total imports and total exports. Also, the 2000 oil consumption numbers used here are estimates. The 2000 production numbers are EIA estimates made for our International Petroleum Monthly.

1. Consumption is estimated using average oil consumpion growth rates from recent years and adjusting according to analysts's judgement.
2. Production includes crude oil, lease condensate, natural gas liquids, other hydrocarbons and alcohol, and refinery gain.
3. Net Imports is calculated by subtracting estimated production from consumption.
4. Columns may not add across due to independent rounding.
