Figure 1.   Return on Investment in U.S. Refining/Marketing and Other Lines of Business for FRS Companies, 1988-2001

This figure indicates that the return on investment for U.S. refining/marketing operations of the FRS companies was generally lower than the return on investment for all other lines of business until the late 1990's.
