      fuel-switching capacity
      -Introduced: end-use allocation, square-footage category, energy
      management activities, general technologies, and industry-specific
      technologies
    • 1994: -On-going: Consumption (noncombustible and combustible),
      special section on natural gas purchases and expenditures (substantially
      enhanced from 1991), fuel-switching capacity, end-use allocation, general
      technologies, and industry-specific technologies
      -Introduced: actual fuel-switching practice between natural gas
      and residual fuel oil, square-footage quantity (instead of just category),
      electric motors purchasing practice (one-time special section), and
      cogeneration technologies.
    • 1998: -On-going: Consumption (noncombustible and combustible), end-use allocation,
      square-footage quantity, energy management activities (redesigned to
      handle changing emphasis), general technologies, cogeneration
      technologies, and industry-specific technologies. Special section on
      natural gas purchases expenditures (although cut back for data quality reasons).
      -Introduced: Number of onsite buildings.
      -Dropped: Fuel-switching capacity and fuel-switching practice. Electric
