The industry produced 8,087 million pounds of primary aluminum and 7,606 million pounds of secondary aluminum in 2000. Imports of ingots and mill products contributed another 7,893 million pounds for a total domestic supply of 23,586 million pounds. The transportation sector was the largest market at 7,963 million pounds or 32.5%; containers/packaging and building/construction comprised another 20% and 13% respectively. [AA 2001]
