Cogeneration technologies include steam turbines (supplied by boilers or waste-heat recovery), conventional or combined-cycle combustion turbines, and internal combustion engines. In petroleum refineries, cogeneration is most often accomplished using a combination of two or more of these technologies. [MECS 1994] The chart below illustrates the energy consumed by establishments using a particular type of cogeneration technology.
