Energy costs account for about 5% of the value of shipments for metal castings. Energy expenditures for the entire industry in 1994 were about $1.1 billion, nearly 2% of all energy expenditures in the manufacturing sector. Gray and ductile iron foundries accounted for nearly $700 million of this total. [MECS 1994]
