Labor productivity in the glass industry has increased
substantially over the past decade, rising between 4% and 32% depending on the sector. [BLS 1996] About 82% of glass employees are production workers,
earning an average of $15.53 an hour in 1997. [DOC 1997] However,
the industry is using less labor than it has in the past, and computer control of
operations is more prevalent throughout the industry.
