Banner on State-Level Information for Forest Products Industry

Most of the forest products industries are concentrated in the northwest, midwest, and southeast, where forest resources are available and accessible. Oregon, California, and Washington account for over 23% of the 1996 lumber and wood total U.S. shipments, while the top two southern lumber producers, Texas and Georgia, make up approximately 11%. Pulp and paper shipments from Wisconsin and Pennsylvania account for 14% of the U.S. total, and the leading southern paper-producing states, Georgia and Alabama, account for over 10%. Overall, the top eight states accounted for 42% of the total shipments and about 38% of total employment. [DOC 1996]
