Paper and wood products are used in many different
applications both at home and at work. For example, in the United States paper is used to
publish more than 2 billion books, 350 million magazines, and 24 billion newspapers
annually. The pulp and paper industry breaks paper and paperboard production into three
major areas: paper grades (SIC 262), paperboard grades (SIC 263), and converted paper and
board products (SICs 265 and 267). The first two categories produce primary products in
large mills, while the converted products sector produces finished products from primary
paper and paperboard materials in smaller, independent manufacturing facilities. Lumber
and wood products include a wide range of products, including cut timber; rough wood
products, such as hewn posts; lumber and flooring; millwork, such as moldings and
cornices; cabinets; plywood; containers; and wood buildings. [Miller
