Aspects of the Merger of Devon Energy and Santa Fe Snyder

Background

On May 26, 2000, the Wall Street Journal reported that Devon Energy Corporation and Santa Fe Snyder Corporation plan to merge. The resulting company will be called Devon Energy Corporation. Santa Fe Snyder shareholders will receive 0.22 shares of Devon Energy stock for each share of Santa Fe Snyder currently owned, giving them approximately 32 percent ownership of the resultant Devon Energy. Current Devon Energy stockholders will hold the remaining 68 percent ownership of the merged company. The following table shows EIA and company data for the Devon Energy-Santa Fe Snyder merger. This table is similar to data presentations that have been previously requested from EIA for other significant energy company mergers and/or corporate alliances.
