6.1. Output and
Energy Consumption Indices for the Industrial Sector, 1977 to 1993
Notes:
Gross Product Originating by industry used to develop the industrial output index is in
constant 1987 dollars.
Notes:
Total manufacturing estimates includes raw materials (feedstocks) but not byproduct fuels.
Nonmanufacturing estimates were obtained by subtracting MECS estimates from the industrial
estimates presented in the Annual Energy Review 1933. Due to this method, the
nonmanufacturing estimates may be too low.
Sources: U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census, 1987 Census of Agriculture, 1987 Census of Mineral Industries, 1987 Census of Construction Industries, and 1987 Census of Manufactures.
Notes:
The residential and commercial building sectors are combined into the buildings sector.
Nonmanufacturing estimates were obtained by subtracting MECS estimates from the industrial
estimates presented in the Annual Energy Review 1933. Due to this method, the
nonmanufacturing estimates may be too low.

Notes:
Confidentiality does not allow EIA to display value of shipments estimates.

Notes:
The ratio of the energy-intensity indicator represents changes in thousand Btu/1987
dollar.
