How many employees are there? There are approximately 27 million workers employed in office buildings across the United States; this is 35 percent of the commercial workforce.
Office buildings contain an average of 38 workers per building, more than the average for all commercial buildings, which is 17 workers. There is an average of 387 square feet per worker in office buildings, much less than the average for all commercial buildings, which is 766 square feet per worker.
