A Look at Office Buildings

How large are they?

How many employees are there?

Where are they located?

How old are they?

Who owns and occupies them?

Are they on multibuilding complexes?

How do they use energy and how much does it cost?

How do they use electricity?

How do they use natural gas?

What types of equipment do they use?

How do they measure up on conservation efforts?

  OFFICE BUILDINGS
Are they on multibuilding complexes?

Twenty-eight percent of office buildings (197 thousand) are located on a multibuilding campus or complex (two or more buildings on the same site, owned or operated by a single organization, business or individual).

Type of Complex Percents

For 69 percent of the office buildings that are part of a multibuilding complex, the type of complex is given as "other."  The 1995 CBECS questionnaire did not include "office complex" as a type of multibuilding campus or complex, so presumably many of these "other" complexes are office complexes.

Fifteen percent of office buildings found on a multibuilding complex are on hospital or other health care complexes; 7 percent are on "other government" complexes ("other government" meaning other than post office or prison); and 3 percent are on college campuses.
