EDUCATION
BUILDINGS
How do they measure up on conservation efforts?
Reference 4: Conservation Feature Definitions Education buildings are one of the building types most likely to have certain types of heating, cooling, and lighting conservation features. Table 9: Number of buildings with conservation features by building type Although the percent of education buildings with these features may be high compared to other buildings, there is a still a lot that can be done to improve energy efficiency. The Department of Energy sponsors a program called "Energy Smart Schools," the aim of which is to cut energy consumption and costs in schools while also improving the learning environment (e.g. with daylighting, better temperature controls, and better air quality) and increasing the awareness of energy-related issues in the education community. For more information, see the Energy Smart Schools home page.
