A Look at Education Buildings

How large are they?

How many employees are there?

Where are they located?

How old are they?

Who owns and occupies them?

Are they on multibuilding complexes?

How do they use energy and how much does it cost?

How do they use electricity?

How do they use natural gas?

What types of equipment do they use?

How do they measure up on conservation efforts?

  EDUCATION BUILDINGS
Are they on multibuilding complexes?

Eighty percent of education buildings (247 thousand) are located on a multibuilding campus or complex (two or more buildings on the same site, owned or operated by a single organization, business or individual).

Type of Complex Percents

Although the 1995 CBECS did not distinguish between different types of education buildings, we can make some comparisons between primary/secondary education and college/university buildings for those that are on a campus.

Buildings on college/university campuses tend to be large buildings that are more energy intensive users of energy than primary/secondary education buildings.
