Total Electricity Consumption by Building Type

  • Commercial buildings in the U.S. used a total of approximately 908 billion kilowatthours (kWh) of electricity in 1999.
  • Office and mercantile buildings used the most total electricity. Both of these building types used electricity as their predominant energy source.
