OPERATIONAL North America Unites States-Mexico El Paso Electric Company owns and operates the only major operational U.S.- Mexico electricity interconnections in the western Texas/New Mexico areas.
Brazil/Venezuela Interconnect Brazil signed an agreement
with Edelca from Venezuela for the supply of 200 MW to the North of Boa Vista, Roraima
State. On the Brazilian side the interconnection involves a 127.72 mile transmission
line connecting the Santa Elena de Uairen substation on the Venezuelan border with the Boa
Vista substation, at 230 kv, single circuit. |
North America US-Mexico Palo Verde Interconnection The $360 million project will consist of two transmission lines capable of carrying 800 to 1,000 MW and running from Palo Verde, Arizona to Sonora, Mexico. The link could be completed by June 2002
System of Electrical Integration for Central American Countries (SIEPAC) Project The Central American countries are currently working on a project that will interconnect the six electric grids through a 1,125 mile (1,800 km) 230 KV transmission line. The project is valued at $316 million. It is being financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the six national governments, and Spain. Construction is expected to begin in 2002 and be completed by 2004.
Brazil/Argentina Interconnection A project valued at $230 million is underway to supply 1,000MW of power to Brazil originating from Argentina. The project calls for the construction of a 225 mile (360 km)500KV transmission line where the Garabi hydropower plant will be built. Brazil/Uruguay Interconnection Eletrosul of Brazil has an agreement with Uruguay for the purchase of 70 MW of energy with possible expansion. The project value is estimated at $30 million. Bolivia-Brazil Interconnection Four companies are currently
investigating the possibility of exporting electricity from Bolivia to Brazils Matto
Grosso region. |
