General Background
Indonesia is the only Southeast Asian member of OPEC, although the country became a slight net oil importer in 2004.
Indonesia has the largest population in Southeast Asia and the fourth largest population in the world (behind China, India, and the United States). In 1962, Indonesia joined the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and became a net importer of oil in 2004 (see the OPEC Fact Sheet for more information).
