EIA is committed to recruiting, retaining and motivating a highly-skilled,
diverse and productive workforce. Hear from some of our newest employees
(in their own words) about why they chose EIA!
"I worked at the U.S Census Bureau for more than 25 years with primary responsibilities for collecting, processing, and disseminating data regarding the finances and employment of federal, state and local government. I chose to transfer to EIA for a variety of reasons including the relevance of our mission to provide policy neutral energy information. I was attracted by the agency’s great location on the Mall and access to public transportation. EIA faces many challenges in terms of recruitment, retention, knowledge transfer, and standardization of data collection procedures. I felt confident that my Census Bureau experiences would enable me to make a difference at EIA. I look forward tackling these issues and working with many of the EIA staff in the years to come."

"While considering new employment opportunities I was presented with several options. I chose EIA because I’d have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of experts on matters of national and international importance. Coming from another statistical agency, I was particularly impressed with EIA’s track record, the amount of information they provided to the public, and the independence under which the organization is chartered. That “freedom from politics” is an ideal situation for the kind of work that EIA does in informing policy and the general public. I’m certain I made the right decision."

"The EIA is one the few agencies in the government that not only serves a key role in helping policy makers and legislators better understand the energy industry but is also relied upon by the private sector energy industry as well. I had used EIA data extensively at graduate school and as an energy consultant so was proud to have an opportunity to contribute to such an important industry resource. Also, after 7 years in the private sector, I felt that the EIA offered an unbeatable balance of interesting work and quality of life."

" I chose to work at EIA because it offered a unique opportunity to use my quantitative analysis skills in an exciting but policy-neutral environment. Working at EIA is rewarding not only because our data collection and analysis efforts deal with extremely important issues, but also because EIA directly serves such a wide audience with its outputs. As a new employee at EIA, I have particularly enjoyed the many opportunities to collaborate with – and learn substantially from – EIA’s talented and knowledgeable staff."

"I chose to pursue a career at the EIA because it serves as an aperture into a world where science and technology converge with the financial markets which in turn both converge with global geopolitics. As a polymer scientist and economist by training, and with a fervent attentiveness for international affairs, the EIA offered an ideal opportunity to gain expertise at the intersection of all three of these disciplines. In an era of robust global economic growth, increasing energy demand, pressing environmental concerns, investments in new technologies, and increasing trends toward nationalization of resources, a career in energy economics has never been more momentous than it is today."

"Since I have an interest in statistics and national energy issues, the opportunity to work at EIA was an exciting challenge. I was especially interested in working with the economists in the integrated energy statistics division. Our work combines data collection and processing with research and analysis of global energy markets. EIA offers employees the chance to focus on current issues of great importance to policymakers, while having the emphasis on data quality and independence of a statistical agency. The team environment of EIA has provided me with the benefits of learning from the energy experience of my colleagues, as well as the responsiblity of researching data questions and issues independently. My experience at EIA has been personally and professionally rewarding"

"I chose EIA because EIA is a very small agency within a huge department. As an employee, this gives you the best of both worlds. You have a lot of control over your work and can have great influence early on, yet you still have the advantages of a large organization in regards to training and other benefits."
