Renewable capacity increased 3.2 percent (3,188 megawatts) in 2006 over 2005. Most of the increase, 2,623 megawatts, was from wind power.
Renewable generation was 9.5 percent of total electric generation in 2006, a slight increase over the 9 percent in 2005.
The three States with the most renewable capacity and generation — Washington, California, and Oregon — are on the West Coast.
California led all States in biomass, geothermal, and solar capacity and generation; Texas had the most wind power capacity and generation; while Washington had the most hydroelectric capacity and generation.
