Figure 1 is an exploding pie chart that shows renewable energy provided 7 percent of total U.S. energy consumption in 2006.  Of that 48 percent was from biomass, 42 percent from hydroelectric, 5 percent from geothermal, 4 percent from wind, and 1 percent from solar.
