The following is a data file on monthly deliveries of fossil fuels to nonutility generating facilities. Included are the specific energy source, quantity of fuel delivered, the Btu content, sulfur content, ash content, coal mine state and county (or country) of origin, coal mine type (surface/underground), as well as the supplier of the fuel. Fuel cost data collected on this survey will not be made available to the public because it is protected. The data file includes facilities with a fossil-fueled nameplate generating capacity of 50 or more megawatts. If a plant in the frame of the survey does not appear in a particular month, either they have reported “no activity” or they are a non-respondent and we are in the process of obtaining their data. Therefore, the file is subject to change in the coming months and will not necessarily agree with cost and quality data published by EIA. Please contact the survey manager (see below) if you believe a plant has been omitted from the database.

All data are available in excel format. In addition, data for 2002 through 2004 are available in DBF format and are compressed into a self-extracting (e423yyyy.exe)* zip file. This zip file expands into one DBF file (e423yyyy.dbf)* that contains the monthly data and an ASCII text file (e423lay.txt) that gives the file description and record layout for the data base structure.

Data from 2005 onward are available in a compressed zip file. This zip file expands into one XLS file (e423yyyy.xls)* that contains the monthly data and the above-mentioned ASCII text layout file (e423lay.txt). A Word version of the layout file is also available.

The current year's file will be a year-to-date file and is maintained in this monthly format until the data for the final month are finalized.
