NYMEX Central Appalachian Coal Futures Near-Month Contract Final Settlement Price Figure 7 is a line graph of the weighted average final settlement price each week of Central Appalachian Coal Futures traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). The data are daily, from July 13, 2001 through December 4, 2001. Prices start at about $40 per short ton in July, when trading in this commodity first opened, rise to almost $50 per ton in August, decline to about $33 per ton by the end of September, and remain at about that level through mid-November, before falling to less than $29 per ton by December 4, 2001.
