Develops and maintains historical databases and published products that integrate energy statistics of all major forms at the international, national, and state level. Integrates statistics for petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear fuel, and renewable energy. Calculates integrated summaries of major energy activities including reserves, production, consumption, trade, storage, prices and expenditures, and prepares supply and disposition balances. The products of the Division provide a basis for data analysis, modeling, forecasting, and quality control.

Provides methodological and statistical support, advice and consultation to EIA and Department survey design and statistical analysis activities to ensure products of the highest quality. Coordinates the statistical programs of EIA with the Office of Management and Budget, other Federal agencies, and academic and professional groups. Supports EIA offices in the identification and application of various methodologies used to improve the quality, relevance and timeliness of published statistics. Provides applied research and implementation support to improve the forecasting accuracy of EIA models. Coordinates the EIA Performance Measures database and has the lead responsibility for the development and evaluation of Performance Measures in EIA. Manages the public-use forms clearance process for DOE’s energy information collections and directs the energy information burden control program. Supports efforts to maintain EIA data confidentiality and to eliminate disclosure of data in its published reports.

Conducts forward-looking analyses and develops forecasts of alternative energy futures. Develops, applies, and maintains the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) and other modeling systems needed to analyze and illuminate the complex interactions of the demand, conversion, and supply for all energy sources and their economic and environmental impacts. Performs analytical studies of integrated energy markets and how they are affected by alternative energy policies and other parameters. Prepares mid- and long-term forecasts of energy markets, penetration of new technologies, and changes in energy, environmental, and macro-economic policies and international developments. Publishes regular reports and special reports as requested. Coordinates with other EIA offices to maintain data systems needed for inputs to integrated analysis forecasting models and analyses. Conducts the voluntary reporting program on Greenhouse Gas Emissions and produces related reports.
